Jody Canfield, Mortgage Advisor, seated in a welcoming home office

Why should you trust my advice on one of the biggest financial decisions of your life?

That’s a fair question.

A mortgage isn’t a small decision, and the person guiding you through it should earn your trust, not assume it.

Every client has a different story, different goals, and a different definition of financial comfort. My job isn’t simply to help you qualify for a loan. It’s to help you understand your options and choose a mortgage strategy that fits your goals.

Here’s a little about why I do this work, the philosophy behind every recommendation I make, and what you can expect if we decide to work together.

It Started Long Before I Became a Mortgage Advisor

I’ve been self-employed since I was 16 years old.

Like many business owners, I learned early that every financial decision affects the next one. Cash flow, taxes, debt, savings, and growth are all connected. That perspective has shaped the way I think about money ever since.

Years later, while running my own loan processing company, I reviewed thousands of mortgage files. I saw families buying their first home, homeowners looking for a fresh start, and people working hard to make smart financial decisions for their future.

Over time, I realized the industry was often asking the wrong question. Most conversations focused on how much someone could qualify for. Very few focused on whether the mortgage actually supported the life they wanted to build.

I watched clients get placed into loans that worked out fine for the loan officer, but not for the person who had to live with it. The loan closed, everyone moved on, but it wasn’t always the best fit for the client signing the paperwork.

That never sat right with me. It changed the direction of my career.

I became a Mortgage Advisor because I wanted to help people make better decisions before they signed the paperwork, not simply process it afterward.

Why I Created the Strategic Mortgage Framework™

As I began working directly with clients, one thing became clear. A mortgage should never be treated as a standalone transaction. It’s one piece of a much bigger financial picture.

Every recommendation begins with one simple belief:

A mortgage should support the life you’re trying to build.

That’s exactly why I created the Strategic Mortgage Framework™.

Its purpose is simple.

Manage Debt. Build Wealth. Create Freedom.

The Strategic Mortgage Framework™ is built around three simple phases.

Assess

Understand the complete financial picture, your goals, and what a comfortable monthly payment looks like for your life.

Align

Match the mortgage strategy to your long-term goals, not simply the highest loan amount you qualify for.

Accelerate

Move confidently through the mortgage process with clear communication, thoughtful guidance, and ongoing support long after closing.

Education Comes Before Recommendations

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that confident decisions come from understanding your options.

That’s why I created Your Home Financing Blueprint, a free educational experience designed to help you make confident mortgage decisions before, during, and after buying a home.

Inside you’ll find:

  • Short educational videos
  • Practical examples
  • Interactive calculators
  • Downloadable worksheets
  • AI guidance whenever questions come up
  • Clear explanations without industry jargon

Some people explore the Blueprint before we ever meet. Others use it after our conversations to revisit topics at their own pace.

Either way, it exists for one reason: to help you understand your options, build confidence, and make decisions that fit your goals.
